If you take a look at the frequency of dreams in the Bible, all prophets from the Old Testament had dreams or visions from God. Dreams and visions were one of the ways God used to communicate with people. Starting with Joseph and his dream of eleven stars bowing down to him, which then manifested in his life as his family and brothers bowing down to him. Daniel and his dreams and visions, even Pharaoh, a non-believer, who had a dream from God about 7 fat cows and 7 poor cows… Dreams were something people were looking forward to have and have it interpreted.
In today’s world we are so desensitized to dreams and spiritual world that dreams are viewed as something abstract or some people claim they don’t dream at all. No one is taking dreams seriously as they usually are complex and difficult to understand. For decades, dreams have been a mystery to scientists trying to decode why we dream and what causes one to dream, not considering the fact that is the gift from God as a way of communicating with people. Dreams were taken very seriously back then and not so much now, that doesn’t mean today’s dreams have lost on their significance, it only means we are weaker and less sensitive to its meanings.
Our diets, various drugs and medications, busy lifestyle and constant brain stimulation through technology, tv and media has an impact on our dream life.
Have you noticed that when you are relaxed during holidays, you can experience more vivid dreams? Or when you improve your diet, your sleep and dreams are better? Well it’s not a coincidence, because the enemy, the price of this world – Satan, is doing everything to make sure we don’t even consider this as a way of communication with God.
We are spiritual beings living in a human body and God is a spirit, how else He could communicate with us? He will not send us an email with clear instructions on our life, that’s for sure! He will use dreams, He will use the word of God, He will give you signs but only if you start paying attention and not considering everything as a weird coincidence!
The average person spends around twenty-six years of life sleeping. That time was created not only to enjoy the physical benefits of rest but also to connect with God and access His guidance for our life. The problem is that dreams can be weird and chaotic and therefore difficult to understand at times.
The scripture tells us in 1 Corinthians 2: 14 “ But the natural man does not receive the things of the spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
Therefore when we dream about something we don’t understand, we don’t pay attention to it at all. We take it as “foolishness”. That was also me in my old life. I’ve always had vivid dreams that I would tell my mum or friends, but I would never thought to look into it’s Biblical meaning or trying to decode what God is trying to tell me. However, I finally started to pay attention after receiving very clear, vivid dreams that wouldn’t leave my thoughts for days. If it wasn’t for my dreams, I would probably be still living in deception and spiritual blindness. I am very grateful that God showed me the truth through my dreams and I could change my ways before it was too late.
My lack of knowledge and ignorance towards the word of God was leading me on a path of destruction. The Bible tells us in Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge”. This knowledge is an all round knowledge of the word of God, spiritual matters and enemy’s tactics. It can be quite overwhelming when we think about how much we have to know and how much we don’t know, however I believe it’s our responsibility to know the Bible for ourselves rather than relying on others to spoon feed us and potentially deceive us. We all have access to the Bible and there is also so much information on Biblical aspects in various books. It’s not like it was centuries before, when people didn’t have access to the word of God and could only rely on hearing it when they went to the church. Now we have all this access to information so we have to equip ourselves better!
From the Bible we know that the enemy wants to be like God and therefore, similarly to God, he is also using our dreams and sleep time to attack us.
Matthew 13: 25 tells us “but while man slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.”
I had many, many dreams that were obvious attacks from the enemy but also very settle and difficult to notice dreams that indicated attacks. What the enemy is trying to do is to put you into some soft of covenant while you are asleep. Because even if you agree to something in your dreams, it is still an agreement that can be used against you. That is why it is so important to think about your dreams upon waking up and trying to remember them and to renounce and break any known or unknown agreements.
Some of the agreements the enemy would like to put you in would be through:
- Eating or drinking in your dreams
- Sexual interactions, immorality, homosexual dreams etc
- Putting on someone’s clothes or shoes or head coverings
- Accepting gifts
- Any spider dreams, insect, insect bites, rats
- Dog dreams, can be dog licking, dog barking on you, dog peeing, playing with dog
- Having pictures taken in your dreams
It all can sound like foolishness to you at first, but trust me, once you get equipped in the spiritual knowledge and mysteries, it gets easier to discern. Also, once the enemy is aware that your spiritual knowledge has increased, those attacks will be obvious to you. I had situations when I was dreaming that I was chewing gum and someone gave me a hot tea, I drunk this hot tea and chewing gum started to glue my lungs and I couldn’t breathe. I woke up coughing and I couldn’t breathe until I rebuked it. Another time I was dreaming that huge spider was coming down from the celling, I felt it on my face! I woke up thinking it was real but I couldn’t find it. I spent at least 30 min trying to find it convinced that it was real. Spiders indicate witchcraft activities that someone is doing on you. You have to cancel it and rebuke it, otherwise you will spiritually agree with anything those witchcraft practices would do in your life.
If you are someone who is not aware of those laws and practices, all this might sounds crazy to you and overly exaggerated. My take on this is it’s better to be cautious than ignorant, especially after all those spiritual experiences I’ve had. And again, as the scripture highlights, we humans are not able to understand spiritual realities with our human reasoning. It just sounds foolishness, especially if you are into science, evidence and logic. But there is no logic about many things in our life and our world, so you just have to allow that some areas of our life have to be left unknown and undiscovered for a reason.
